This map shows Jones County, est. 1854. The county seat of Anson is shown at the center, near the junction of the Abilene & Northern and Abilene & Southern Railroads.  Other rail lines in the county include the Stamford & Northwestern Railroad, Wichita Valley Railroad, and the Kansas City, Mexico & Orient Railway, Jones County is bordered by Stonewall, Haskell, Shackleford, Taylor, and Fisher counties.
